Les Fleurs, in French, is the literal translation of “flowers.” Born out of my love for the natural world and the diversity found within (as well as a good coffee table book), this conceptual project came to be.
As a child, I grew up with a father whose hobbies and interests were almost never aligned with what was expected of a stereotypical man (at least the ones bred before the 90s). Remaining glued to the television to watch sports all day or spending Sundays at the golf course were the least of his concern. Instead, he matched my mother on every household task and knew how to take care of the handy work, but his speciality to this day has always been his affinity for gardening.
Needless to say, there were a ton of gardening and flower-care books in the house, everything from full page photo spreads to the very technical ones with tiny writing and intricate botanical illustrations. Often times, I found both styles to never fully satisfy what I wanted to see in these books.
Thus, I created my own version of what I did want to see — something visually engaging while remaining informative of the most essential facts. Not too formal, and hopefully, a joy to flip through while you’re sipping your morning coffee.
